After listening to the latest Commandercast, I was disappointed and enlightened to hear them talking about how commander is no longer the "Fatty Format".
The upside to this, is that Godzilla has a niche to fill again! I tweaked the rules to be further from "EDH 2" and made sure that everything was up to date and not broken.
I removed as many cards as I thought were safe from the B&R lists, and I even introduced some optional rules for [card]Command Tower[/card]!
I urge you to check it out. I aim for Godzilla to try and be everything that people wish EDH were/still was but isn't.

Format full of mandatory fatties...CHECK!
Faster games that aren't too short...CHECK!
Achievements built into the format itself...CHECK!
Rewards for doing goofy things and playing with bad cards...CHECK!
The Godzilla rules have been updated for M11 and to make the achievements matter more. No cards were added or removed from the B&R list. The points system was the major change.
The fat chart was modified again to remove the Meh point. If your fat is Meh, you dont deserve points and it makes the whole table a linear function instead of the estranged "1".
The points for achievements were doubled and many more added to the list to promote goofy and fun interactions and fat creatures. This list will be in constant change until we feel that it promotes the atmosphere that Godzilla represents.
Finally, we brought back Victory points as a 3rd seperate catagory simply to make things clearer.
So, seeing as how Godzilla has a brand new super awesome face to it, I decided I needed to build a new deck. Noting that Personal Tutor was not restricted and that one of my personal favorite decks that I have had for ages was practically Godzilla legal already, and REALLY loved 4X Personal Tutor, here is the original deck in all it’s glory
Grozo-Eureka (Casual Vintage Legal 2006)
Now, back in the day 20 lands was considered “correct” for a 60 card deck, and I don’t remember why I chose the cards in the numbers that I did. Seems like 4 Grozoth’s in a Grozoth deck would be a good idea. Let’s update this to Godzilla Legal.

The quality of fatties has gone up greatly in the past few years, and some of the toolbox creatures stay in (despite their relatively diminutive p/t) to perform their respective soft/hard locks. On the other hand, I have some better finishers in the way of Artisan of Kozilek (whose ability will not trigger with Eureka, but who cares), and Inkwell Leviathan.
Also, check out the one of Darksteel Reactor. Inkwell Leviathan and Nullstone Gargoyle are nearly impossible to kill with it out and it doesn’t HURT any of my creatures. Furnace Dragon is in as a last resort against artifact decks and usually will not be played even if I do tutor for it. Kuro is a wrath effect given enough life and Nullstone Gargoyle and Blazng Archon help protect me/my dudes.
This deck was a blast to play before and looks to be even more fun with Godzilla in mind. I can’t wait to try it out next weekend, as this weekend I have to present my playgroup with the new rules and give them time to build for the format.

As of today, May, 10th 2010, there will be some changes in the face if the best multi-player format that lets you have 4 copies of a card in your deck. In an effort to make Godzilla a more fun format that is more about the fatties and playing with older cool cards we present to you the new Godzilla official tournament.
Godzilla now functions differently in several ways;
One, the deck size is larger as is the number of required fatties - 75 cards and 20 fatties proved to be too easy for combo players to dominate the field and made the Fat creatures less important during game play. The deck is bigger, bringing more inconsistency in the format. The fat total is bigger to make sure that a larger percent of the deck, even though it is bigger, is full of big fat dorks. And the new rules require much larger fatties to get fat points. The minimum Fatty total of 240 doesn't even provide points any more, so rip out those copies of Emrakul and beef up your Godzilla.
Two, Sportsmanship points are gone in favor of Achievements - There was alot of complaining about sports points being a popularity contest, and we on the Godzilla RC agree. Now you are ACTUALLY rewarded for cool plays and penalized for douchebaggery with POINTS, the only reward/penalty that matters in a tournament viable format.
Three, Godzilla has a revised B&R list - Some cards have gone on the banned list and some have come off. All in all Godzilla allows more cards that any other format I can think of, several of which are allowed as a 4 of only in 'zilla (looking at you Regrowth and Personal Tutor)
So give the new rules a try, run some events, and if 'Zilla ever returns to the full glory of it's size , there may be another 'Zilla only promo in the works, but until then check out the events page here for places to pick up a Docile Dragon Promo.

This weekend I will be partaking in a Godzilla event with my normal play group and wanted to showcase my deck list and some strategy, as well as a theoretical "Rules Watch List" I have in place for the format.
Of the 5 colors, Green and blue obviously have the highest possible fat totals, followed by Black, Red and White in that order. With the eldrazi out, there is a potential for any deck to have a huge fat total and still have playable monsters in it. I unfortunately do not have enough eldrazi to REALLY test out whether or not they are a little TOO good in the format and warrant a restriction (I will never ban an Eldrazi in Godzilla if I don't have to). I love playing mono color and I love a challenge so I decided to go mono red, as I don’t care much for white. Here is my deck and Fatties:

So the deck plays with a whopping Fatty Points Total of 303, which starts me with +6 points. Then it spends the early turns ramping mana (as do most Godzilla decks) preferably into a Rapacious One who then ramps even further into something huge. Shatterstorm is in there to disrupt problem artifacts and other players ramp to keep them off the fatties a bit so I can win the arms race. Fissure is mostly for the instant speed hard removal and the whole set of fatties are pretty obvious why they are included. Cragganwick Cremator is a HOUSE and does at least 5 damage when it comes into play, often more. Hopefully Mikokoro, Top and Wheel will keep me in relevant cards for the whole time as red tends to burn out quickly in multiplayer. One thing that seems REALLY strong in Godzilla is annihilator and just Eldrazi in general.
Previously, Darksteel Colossus was on the restricted list due to his auto-include nature. Being a strong card, increasing your fat total colorlessly and in a MAJOR way put him well above the curve that he was already above, which brings me to the eldrazi. Now there are upwards of 10 auto-include colorless monstrosities and it has me wondering if DSC isn’t as bad as previously thought because there are now a TON of similar options, or if the eldrazi are just plain old broken in Godzilla. All of the mythic eldrazi are on a watch list, as well as the Fatty Award points progression. It seems that large creatures have been getting nothing but fatter over the years, and Godzilla may need to change to accommodate that. There is now a 15/15 creature that can be played in EVERY deck. Also, I have been mulling around making the minimum creature size 5/5 instead of 4/4 for the same reasons.
Please, if you play Godzilla, report to me and let me know if anything listed above (or anything else) seems broken in the format. I want Godzilla to become “The play 4X of my favorite cards EDH” so the format needs support which I plan on delivering, but I need data.

Due to the Rise of the Eldrazi set, I think Godzilla needs to rethink [card]Darksteel Colossus[/card] as a restricted card and/or needs to restrict the eldrazi as well. All eldrazi can be played in any deck and are rarely a dead card. I haven't had the oppertunity to play Godzilla in quite some time, but as many WOOBERG fans know it is a pet format of mine and I am constantly trying to revive it. I now have a regular playgroup and though this weekend is a Reject Rare Draft, I plan on proposing Godzilla to become a regularly played format in my playgroup. I also plan on playing as many Eldrazi as possible (4X Emrakul might be unfair as far as fat total goes) to see if they are auto includes in every deck and streamline decklists a little too much. More on this as it develops, but as of the ROE release this friday Darksteel Colossus is no longer restricted in Godzilla MTG.
Welcome back variant format fans, once again it is I, Shoe. First, I would like to take a brief moment to announce that WOOBERG.com has been infected with a nasty virus and will be down for some time. The friend of mine who maintains my site and currently owns the domain is notoriously hard to get a hold of and I don’t have full access, let alone the know-how to troubleshoot this kind of problem. I am currently trying to get him to hand over full control of WOOBERG and find new help as he has been an uninterested party since day five of the site’s existence or so. I will try to keep updates here as I know more.
Anyway, on to the meat of the article, I wanted to take some time today to discuss my favorite variant format of all. Godzilla Magic is a variant format that originated at Metagames Unlimited in Springfield, MO. I went to college there for one year and loved the format as soon as I played it. I have transplanted it to the Seattle area, where I now live, and started a second faction of Godzillites. The rules are something like this. Godzilla is a multi-player format, and is meant for a casual tournament structure. The minimum deck size is 75 (Metagames has changed its minimum deck size after the writing of this article, however, WOOBERG.com will not be changing this rule for reasons that will be discussed at another time – Shoe) cards and at least 20 of those cards must be creatures with power and toughness both above four. Each match is awarded prizes as follows. Whenever a player looses, each player still in the game gets one point. The last man standing gets an additional 2 points. Then the total power and toughness of the 20 “fat” creatures is figured and compared to the following table to get more points.

Finally, at the end of the match, each player votes on one player other than him or herself. This vote is the “sportsmanship” vote and each vote you receive is an additional point. Now, sportsmanship can mean many things, but generally, the rule is there to prevent broken decks from always being the best choice. Let’s look at a couple of decks:

This deck is as close to a casual multiplayer MBC build as you can get with the Godzilla Rules. With a whopping 261 Fat points, we get to start off with a great big four points. Not the best, but as you will find, 300+ fat points is HARD to get. We have some nice early creatures with the Hatchling and the Horror, and with how good green is in the format, Nature’s Ruin and Perish usually aren’t just for killing the Horror tokens. Lots of mass removal and solid creatures pave the way for this deck. Lets look at another, less conventional way to go about this.

This deck doesn’t play like a traditional Godzilla deck at all, but I thought it would be fun to build. The deck plays like a Lightning Rift deck, with a Living Death finish. Living death acts as a board sweeper to everyone else most of the time, but you have a ton of cycled fatties pitched to the bin. The deck would be better with more Scion of Darkness, but I am broken and didn’t own any more at the time of construction.
