One of my favorite parts (no secret) of Magic, is the deckbuilding aspect of the game. Being a parent of 3 (soon 4) I have very little time to do just that, so my Magic "career" has screeched to a hault as of late. My munchkins are much too young to learn to play the game and they want to hang out with me. I spend far more time these days reading "A Pocket for Corduroy" and "Miss Nelson is Missing" than I do playing or building for any sort of game. Recently I was introduced to the game of Dominion by some of my gamer friends and instantly fell in love. The game has you BUILDING A DECK WHILE YOU PLAY! Thats right, my favorite part of Magic has been added as an intigral part of the gameplay itsself of a card game.
Anyone who enjoys limited play will surely enjoy dominion. Its alot like Rotisserie Drafting while you play, and the ability to customize your deck to respond to what it lacks is a fantastically fun dynamic.
I am currently working on desgining a variant for Magic that allows the same kind of freedom and that promotes deckbuilding skills almost as much or more than the playskill of the Magic player. I have 2 different ideas in the works which I plan on posting later this week or early next.
Untill next time, I suggest you give Dominion a shot and...
