So, everyone who reads WOTC's website on a daily or even semi regular basis has probably noticed the several mentions of the Disney movie "The Sorcerer's Apprintice" and maybe even entered the contest to win some tickets to see the move.  Well, I got a 2nd place prize in that contest and went to see the movie last Friday.

The movie wasnt bad, but it wasn't super impressive either.  The special effects were wildly varied in  thier quality.  Some of the things that happened looked SUPER fake and others were pretty cool and interesting Ideas.
The main thing I want to talk about is Magic's part in the movie.  WOTC pushed really hard that Magic played a role in the movie, but the grand totality of MTG in the Sorcerer's Apprintice was a couple of Standees in the minor villan/sidekick's house.  WOTC said that the character was 'sponsored' by WOTC and they even made up several cards just for the movie and displayed them on thier site.  The aforementioned cards never appear in the movie and the character never even mentions Magic.  Drake Stone doesnt even have a major role.  The character is just a minor villan put into place to give the main character someone he can fight while his mentor and the ACTUAL main villan fight.

Now, the movie wasn't BAD, but it wasnt spectacular either.  The concept was fun, but it was a very cleche story of nerd gets some sort of edge based on nerdiness and then "gets the girl" and defeats the villan.  The "fight" with Morgana Le Fay at the end was laughable as there was literally no action and she barely defended herself.  It was a fun movie to take the kids to and my son (4 yrs) loved it.  My daughters both slept through most of it (Ages 2 and 10 mo) but that is to be expected at thier ages.

That's all I have for you today, to sum things up, this is a movie about magic not "Magic" so don't go thinking MTG actually plays any part in the movie more than it did in Spider-Man where Pete had a Torment poster in his room.

So until next time...Use YOUR shoes as counters,

So, its not new business, but the alternate art Jace is just the Jace book promo from Agents of Artifice novel, but its still a pretty cool prize.  I got 4 tickets to see the Sorcerer's Apprintice (the new Disney movie) which is awesome because my kids can get in free because they are under 5.  There is a cool Drive-In movie playing the movie in Auburn.  I will do a little movie review when I get the chance to see it.

So, today I found out that I was one of 40 some odd Magic players to come in second in the "Share the Magic" competition where you build a deck based around one of the 5 Lorwyn planeswalkers using only M11 cards.  Below is my submission:

4 [card]Chandra's Spitfire[/card]
4 [card]Chandra Nalaar[/card]
4 [card]Fire Servant[/card]
4 [card]Ember Hauler[/card]
4 [card]Lightning Bolt[/card]
4 [card]Bloodcrazed Goblin[/card]
2 [card]Triskellion[/card]
2 [card]Sorcerer's Strongbox[/card]
4 [card]Arc Runner[/card]
22 [card]Mountain[/card]s
4 [card]Chandra's Outrage[/card]
2 [card]Fling[/card]

Chandra likes fire, she burns stuff.  This is a pretty classic aggro-burn deck.  Sorcerer's Strongbox is about as red as card draw can be because of the chaotic nature of the coin flip, and red really needs a way to keep it from running out of gas.  Chandra can user her first ability with Bloodcrazed Goblin, Fire Servant and Chandra's Spitfire to get in alot more damage each turn than just the one and then end things with her ultimate pretty quickly.

Nothing fancy, but the deck seems REALLY fun and REALLY red.  I love me some face smashery and so does Chandra.  Everything in the deck gets better with burn and it seems like it might be a fun deck to even give a try in standard (If I was the type to play standard ...PPPPBBBTT).

I'll post pics of my Jace promo when I get it and even do a movie review when I take the kids to see the Sorcerer's Apprintice.

Well, I have got pretty much every format that still makes sense within the modern rules of magic posted to the site.  I have something like 9 more that need some serious balancing, Graphic Design or Rules updating skills applied to them which will happen soon I hope.  Also several of the formats are messy right now in rules balance, current Magic rules, formatting of the text and just plain old bad wording.  I plan on updating and fixing every format in order of importance.  First I will update any format that a player posts a comment on the blog here that they are planning on using.  Second, I will Hit up the most famous and widely known formats.  Third, I will modify all 2+ player formats before doing anything solitare or online.  Please let me know what formats you are planning on using!  WOOBERG supports you in your casual MTG hobby.  Let me know if anything on the site is used frequently by your playgroup and we will accomidate ASAP!

Thanks and remember...

Posted over 20 new variant formats this week.  By next week I hope to have my core group of variants all posted and to start scrounging the web for formats that I dont have rule sets for saved anywhere yet.  Also starting in 2 weeks I want to start testing and updating formats for 2010 Magic and all the changes the game has taken since some of these formats have been updated.  As always if you have a favorite format or just one that you want to play, let me know and I will add it/Get it updated sooner than the others.

Thanks for using WOOBERG.com as your #1 source for Variant Formats, and remember...
